Another crazy drive to Ndjili airport

I guess you can never get used to driving to the airport in Kinshasa.

Tonight was another wild ride to the airport. Mad traffic left and right. Pushing through the chaos.

The lane gets tighter and tighter as busses and trucks push ever so slowly into your lane.

Claustrophobia for passengers is a real feeling.

Google maps gives you some insight into what to expect but nothing prepares you for the unexpected swirves of motorbikes coming into and out of your lane.

This is when you realise that a good driver is not only good to have but a real life saver in Kinshasa.

A good driver can get you out of bad situations and also avoid them.

A good driver can actually get you from A to B without getting robbed or harassed to death.

If you have a good driver, if you find one, treat him or her well.

The rules of the road in Congo aren’t those in other nations. Get used to it.

Courtesy? What’s that?

Patience? Never heard of it.

There’s only one rule: Who has bigger balls?

If you get mad, you’ve lost, they laugh at you, you silly little white man saying : “Rentre chez toi mundele!”

Luckily, we made it untouched to the gates of heaven.

Good bye Kinshasa!

See you later!
