Can you fly a drone in Kinshasa or in the DRC for that matter?

I think this is a question that is asked a lot among friends but there is no clear answer.

The safe answer is no, don’t.

If you are not ready to get arrested or get in big trouble with the police, the secret service (ANR) or military, do not bother flying a drone, even a small one. Because the day you are caught, problems will only get worse and maybe a fine won’t be enough to get you out of trouble.

Especially now that the country is at war in the East. Maybe you’ll be charged for spying.

If you don’t mind the risks and can be very stealthy, like a lot of people who have posted their photos and videos or who have all the authorisations (maybe worth 1000 USD or more per year) which won’t necessarily guarantee your safety from the authorities or the annoying police man on the ground, then go ahead and film and take photos.

The sky is literally the limit.

Of course, avoid flying near borders, airports and military bases… Don’t invade people’s privacy by flying into their homes or open spaces. Stick to open, empty spaces to be safe. Or stay high enough to not get seen.
